Department of Mathematics, South Campus, University of Kashmir was established in 2006 with the sole purpose to impart higher education to the students of J & K especially. The department is located in the South Campus, the University of Kashmir which is the Southern part of Kashmir (J & K) about fifty kilometres from Srinagar.

At present, there are five faculty members in the department. Moreover, the posts of Associate professor and some assistant professors are vacant. Some of the faculty members are holding Ph. D degrees and are carrying research in their areas of interest viz., Analysis, Polynomials and Wavelets, while others are pursuing their research programmes in different research institutions. Some faculty members have also qualified JRF/NET exams. The faculty members continue publishing research papers in the National/International journals with good impact factors.

At present, the intake capacity of the department is 50+15(50 for General and 15 for Self-Finance). The admission is made through a common entrance test conducted by the University of Kashmir. The students holding a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent degree with mathematics as one of the subjects are eligible for the PG program in Mathematics.

Besides other facilities, the department is also equipped with a computer lab to provide internet and other computer-based facilities to the students especially the subscription to online journals like sciencedirect.com etc.

The department has its own library with about 4000 books on Mathematics and allied subjects including almost 100 hardbound books on Research level Mathematics. The department also gets a yearly library grant from the NBHM (National Board for Higher Mathematics) to purchase higher mathematics books and research journals.

The faculty of the department are using their best efforts to make the department a research hub of mathematics.
