Ku’s South Campus Organize Plantation Drive
Anantnag, April 02: National Service Scheme, South Campus, Anantnag in collaboration with the Forest Department of Jammu and Kashmir, organized a massive plantation drive under the theme “Forest and Innovation: New Solutions for a Better World”.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from faculty, volunteers, students, and non-teaching staff, demonstrating a collective commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. The dive was aimed to inspire positive change and create a greener, healthier future for all.
The plantation drive was inaugurated by Director, South Campus, Prof. Raies Ahmad Qadri, who planted a sapling to mark the occasion. This act was followed by the participation of DFO Anantnag, Range Officer, faculty members, and students who joined in planting saplings across the campus.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Raies Ahmad Qadri reiterated South Campus's commitment to environmental stewardship and emphasized the importance of making the campus a green and clean environment.
Prof. Qadri further highlighted the significance of plants in purifying the air and creating a sustainable ecosystem, in tune with the slogan of the Ministry of Environment, Government of India, “Green India, Clean India” Campaign.
The plantation drive is a testament to our dedication to environmental conservation, we are committed to creating a green and clean Campus that fosters a healthy environment for all, Prof. Qadri said.
DFO Anantnag, Mudasir Mahmood underscored the crucial role of the Forest Department in safeguarding forests and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in preserving our natural heritage. He assured to extend all possible support in proving unique sapling to the campus for furthering the plantation process.
Range Officer, Obaid Ahmad Lanker, spoke about the numerous benefits of plantation drives, including biodiversity conservation, soil erosion prevention, and climate change mitigation.
Earlier, In-Charge Landscape, Dr. Mubashir Ahmad Malik gave an overview of landscape activities being executed at South Campus.
Programme Officer, Tausif Bhat highlighted the pivotal role of National Service Scheme in mobilizing youth to volunteer their services for the betterment of society and the environment. He stressed the importance of community engagement and collective action in addressing environmental challenges.
