The Institute of Nursing, University of Kashmir, South Campus, organized a special event on World Mental Health Day 2025 at the Auditorium, South Campus, University of Kashmir. The program aimed to raise awareness about mental health issues and emphasize the importance of accessible mental health services, in line with this year’s global theme — “Access to Services: Mental Health Catastrophes and Emergencies.”
The event was graced by the presence of Prof. Waseem Bari, Director, South Campus, University of Kashmir, who presided over the function. In his address, the Director appreciated the efforts of the Institute of Nursing for organizing an academically enriching and socially relevant event. He highlighted the growing importance of mental health education and the role of young professionals in promoting psychological well-being in the community.
The guest expert for the event was Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Dar, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag. Dr. Dar delivered an insightful and interactive talk on the theme, sharing his expertise on the mental health challenges faced during emergencies and the importance of timely access to professional support.
Faculty members, nursing students, and other staff members of the South Campus attended the program with enthusiasm. The event featured thought-provoking discussions and interactive sessions that encouraged participants to reflect on the need for empathy, understanding, and service availability in mental health care.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered expressing gratitude to the esteemed speakers, dignitaries, and participants for their valuable contributions in making the event a success.
Panel discussion
A panel discussion on “Mental Health” was also held as part of the event. The session was moderated by Mr. Ishfaq Nazir, Assistant Professor, Institute of Nursing, University of Kashmir, South Campus. The panel comprised esteemed experts including Dr. Mansoor Ahmad Dar, Prof. Waseem Bari, Mr. Hilal Hyder, and Mr. Zia-ul-Haq, who shared their perspectives on various dimensions of mental health—from clinical management to social awareness and educational interventions. The discussion was highly engaging and offered valuable insights into the need for a collaborative approach to addressing mental health challenges in society.
