A one day seminar was organised on the theme special Education- issues and challenges on 28 th December, 2021 at South Campus, University of Kashmir. The main speakers of the conference were Mr. Javaid Ahmad Tak (Padme shree), Mr. Shaheel Mohd I/c Special Cell DSW KU, Mr. Tariq Bashir Assistant Professor, Degree College Utrsoo. Academic Coordinator, Department of Education, Ms. Moomin Jan conducted the proceedings of the seminar. The seminar started at 11:00 AM. The seminar began with the recitation of the Quran by Mr. Amir Ashraf Student of M.A. Education. Director, South Campus, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad Khanday formally welcomed the Chief Guests and distinguished speakers and the audience. He emphasized on the importance of linkage between traditional classroom, teaching and societal issues. He appreciated the Department of Education for highlighting of these relevant topics which pertains to sensitize and humanize the minds of people to appreciate and acknowledge the contribution of persons with having different deficits and deformities. The keynote address was delivered by Dr Mr. Javaid Ahmad Tak (Padme Shree), in which he highlighted the concept of special Education and Rights of Persons with Disability. Mr. Tariq Bashir highlighted the problems and challenges faced by specially-able persons and shared his expert views and his personal experience with the audience present there. Moreover, a special lecture was delivered by Mr. Shaheel Mohd. The seminar underscored the importance of understanding the nuances of special education. The speakers stressed the role played by special educators in identifying and accepting the multiple disability persons and implementing the policies for educating the specially able children. The special children from Zaiba-Apa Institute of Inclusive Education gave a practical demonstration of use of Brail system and use of Sign Language and other related activities.
