The Department of Education, South Campus, Anantnag University of Kashmir in collaboration with CrossBow Miles organized a one day workshop on "Women, Law and Society - Challenges & Issues" on 28th April 2018 at the Auditorium Hall, South Campus, , Anantnag University of Kashmir. The workshop was aimed at highlighting and deliberating upon pressing issues faced by women in the society with focus on creating awareness for women’s safety and empowerment through financial and digital literacy.
Bilal Ahmad Kaloo, Coordinator-Department of Education, South Campus inaugurated the workshop with brief overview about the objectives of workshop and introduced the resource persons and guest speakers.
Dr Ashfaq Ahmad Zarri, Director South Campus, Anantnag University of Kashmir in his vote of thanks applauded Srishti for her extraordinary accomplishment to complete 3800 KM walk from Kanyakumari to Kashmir along with voicing and raising awareness related to women issues. He further asserted that debate and discourse on social issues in academic institutions has a lot of promise and potential to solve the problems faced by our society.
Speaking at the workshop, Srishti Bakshi founder of CrossBow Miles shared with the audience her effort aims to sensitize citizens about gender divide in the country that can be combated by empowering women with digital and financial literacy. Srishti involved the audience in various participatory activities focusing on sensitization and creating awareness about women issues.
Students and scholars from various departments of the university and faculty members of university and different colleges participated in the workshop.
Talish Rey and Sunita Ojha (Advocates at Supreme Court of India) deliberated upon legal aspects related to crime against women.
Gulzara Masoodi, well known social activist and Member, Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women, J&K government, was the chief guest of the function. Ms. Srishti Bakshi of CrossBow Miles who has covered a 3,800 km-long journey walking from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, to Srinagar, Kashmir, to make Indian roads safer for women, was the guest of honour. Speaking at the workshop, Mrs. Gulzara Masoodi,Member, J&K State Commission for Women exhorted the society in general and the families in particular, to support their girls and daughters in their education and other issues in their lives. Education, she said, is the biggest tool for women empowerment and it would bring about a lot of change in the society and would lead them from darkness to light.
CrossBow Miles is a mass outreach and engagement platform tailored for cause-driven campaigns. Conceptualized and established in 2016, CrossBow Miles is the vision of Srishti Bakshi and the Team CrossBow Miles has embarked on 3800 km on-foot journey across India and jas reached Kashmir for the last leg of the campaign.
