KU’s South Campus Anantnag in collaboration with Govt Higher Secondary School Hawl, Pulwama and JK Department of Science and Technology organised programme on “Popularisation of Mathematics” in Pulwama district on 26.12.2022.

 

The sixth session of the lecture series was held on Monday at Govt. Boys Degree College Pulwama, in which around 160 students from more than 20 High and Higher Secondary Schools of Pulwama district attended the programme along with their escort teachers.

Additional District Development Commissioner Dr. Ab Aziz Sheikh was the Chief Guest, while as CEO Pulwama, Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Khan and Principal Govt. Higher Secondary School Hawl Pulwama, Mtr Nusrat Manzoor and Principal GDC Pulwama Prof. Haris Izhar Tantray were a Special/ guests of honouer on the occasion.

 Chief guest being a veterinary doctorate degree holder said that Statistics is a mandatory course in veterinary sciences and being a mathematics lover, he pursuaded his children to opt mathematics and later they had done B.Tech degrees. He further thanked director South Campus for organising such events in Pulwama district.

  Director South Campus apprised the gathering about the month long activities conducted by the South Campus at various High and Higher Secondary Schools of Kashmir division and main objective of the awareness programme. He delivered a special lecture on the importance of mathematics in our real life situations and motivated students towards mathematics through animation based presentation. He futrther added that role of mathematics is in every discipline of science/humanities/social sciences etc. The various scheme available for mathematics student like Math Olympiad, NBHM fellowships, INSPIRE scheme etc were extensively discussed by the speaker. Our students have a great talent, however they need self confidence and motivation to pursue their career, Khanday said.

 

 Principal Higher secondary School Hawl, Mtr. Nursar Manzoor welcomed the guests and briefly presented the importance of mathematics awareness programmes among schools. Dr. Mohmad Ibrahim Mir, Assistant Professor South Campus delivered a technical lecture about understanding mathematical logic. Senior Mathematics lecturers like Mr. Jehangir Ahmad, Mr. Arshad Hassan (Organiser of the event), Mr. Mohamad Maqbool, Mr. Riyaz Ahmad along with students of various High/Higher Secondary schools extensively discussed about mathematical anxiety in students, remedies and importance of the subject.

Chief Education officer proposed the vote of thanks and shared his experience about the subject and urged students to opt mathematics in order to make their future brighter.
